ESU-Bloomsburg Men's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG - Bloomsburg scored 16 straight points midway through the first half and went on to defeat East Stroudsburg University, 71-61, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division men's basketball game Saturday night.

The Huskies improved their PSAC East-leading record to 9-1 and their overall mark to 18-6. The Warriors dropped to 4-7 in the conference and were eliminated from playoff contention. They are 11-15 overall.

With the score tied at 10, Jay DeSchields hit a 3-pointer to trigger the decisive 16-point run. Aaron Carter later connected on two 3-pointers and a rebound basket to make the score, 26-10, with 4:51 left in the half.

The halftime difference was 14 points at 36-22. ESU made only 6 of 22 shots in the first half for a 27 percent shooting average.

The Warriors rallied in the second half and cut the margin to nine points six different times, the first at 39-30 and the last at 68-59 with 1:11 remaining, but they couldn't get any closer.

ESU's Juwan Justice took game honors with 20 points and 11 rebounds, his second double-double of the week. He had scored 21 points and grabbed ten boards in a win over Kutztown Wednesday.

Shahad Abdur-Rahkman added 14 points, all in the second half, as the Warriors heated up with 50 percent shooting (15-30).

DeSchields led Bloomsburg with 18 points followed by Carter and Shawn Munford with 11 apiece.
