ESU-Kutztown Men's Basketball
KUTZTOWN - Shahad Abdur-Rahkman scored five key points down the stretch to lift East Stroudsburg University to an 70-62 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division men's basketball victory over Kutztown Wednesday night.
With the score tied at 57, Justin Boehret sank two free throws to put ESU ahead by two points. Kutztown came down the court for a possible tying basket, but Rahkman stole the ball, drove in for layup, was fouled and sank the free throw to open the gap to five points at 62-57 with 4:22 remaining.
The Golden Bears still were within striking range, trailing, 64-60, with 2:53 left. when Rahkman tipped in an offensive rebound to make it a six-point game with only 1:34 to go. The Warriors then sank four free throws, two by Justice and one apiece by Jon Kelley and Gabe Crowley, in the final 1:09 to wrap it up.
Justice took game scoring honors with 21 points and also grabbed ten rebounds. Rahkman finished with 20 points, his highest scoring game since early January. Crowley contributed 14 points while Kelley grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds.
Kutztown had five double-figure scorers led by Jeff Brickus with 14 points. Adam Smith added 12 points and Reggie Cox, Kevin Handy and Arvin Kotrri ten apiece.
The win lifted the Warriors' overall record to 11-13 and conference mark to 4-6 with two games remaining, at Bloomsburg Saturday and at home against West Chester next Wednesday. Kutztown is now 5-17 overall and 1-8 in the PSAC.
