ESU-Millersville Men's Basketball

EAST STROUDSBURG - Center Derrick Woolfolk came off the bench to score 13 points in less than five minutes in the first half to lead Millersville to a 76-56 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division men's basketball victory over East Stroudsburg University Saturday night.

Woolfolk, a 6-8, 200-pound senior, took complete charge of the game after the Warriors had forged an early 12-9 lead. He scored off a rebound, made two free throws, connected from underneath and then threw in a thundering jam to put the Marauders ahead, 18-14.

Minutes later, he took two passes from Jasmine Williams and scored from inside to up the margin to ten points at 25-15. He finished with 19 points, ten points above his season average of nine points per game.

The Warriors made a run late in the first half to close within five points at 33-28 as two little-used freshmen Justin Boehret and David Fedorka joined another frosh, Rob Georges in leading the comeback.

Woolfolk then scored the last basket of the first half off, another pass from Williams, to make the halftime difference, 35-28.

ESU stayed close for the first four minutes of the second half when the Marauders broke it wide open with a 17-5 run capped by three straight 3-pointers by Gerald Redding. That made it, 58-41, with 11:12 remaining. The biggest lead was 17 points at 75-48 before ESU scored the last eight points of the game.

Phillip Alston took scoring honors for the Marauders with 20 points while Redding had 19. Williams fed off seven assists.

ESU had four players in low double figures with Shahad Abdur-Rahkman tallying 11 and Juwan Justice, Gabe Crowley and Wayne Bishop ten each.

The loss drops the Warriors to 10-12 overall and 3-5 in the conference with their next start at West Chester Monday at 8 p.m. Millersville is now 14-7 overall and 5-2 in PSAC play.
