ESU-Shepherd Men's Basketball
SHIPPENSBURG - Juwan Justice scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the first half as East Stroudsburg University roared to a 36-26 halftime lead, but Shepherd came back in the second half to beat the Warriors, 64-53, Friday night in the season-opening Shippensburg Tournament.
The loss spoiled the coaching debut of ESU's new coach Mike Power. The Warirors now will play Shippensburg in a consolation game Saturday at 3 p.m. Shepherd will meet Central Washington the championship contest at 8.
The Rams opened the second half with a 12-2 scoring run to tie the score at 38. The Warriors led for the last time at 50-49 with 7:19 remaining, but Shepherd outscored
ESU, 15-3, the rest of the way for the win.
Antar Parkman led Shepherd's second half surge with 18 of his game-high 27 points. He finished with 10 for 14 shots from the floor and six of eight from the free throw line.
Justice wound up with 19 points on 7 for 12 shooting, including three three-pointers in seven attempts. He didn't get a rebound in the second half and finished with seven. Shahad Abdur Rankham and Rob Smith each added ten points.
