ESU-Mansfield Men's Basketball

MANSFIELD - Mansfield sank 33 free throws including nine in the final minute and a half to defeat East Stroudsburg University, 89-85, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division men's basketball opener Wednesday night.

It was a foul-filled game with 54 personal fouls whistled, 29 against ESU and 25 against Mansfield.

With the score tied at 78 with 1:45 left, the Mounties went on a 6-1 run to take an 85-79 lead. Damar Lopez started it off with two free throws and a lay-up. After an ESU free throw, Mike Schrader, Tommy Harvey and Alex Goodman all sank the second of two foul shots to up the margin with six with 18 seconds left.

The Warriors (1-11) refused to die as Rob Smith dropped a three-pointer, but Lopez converted two more free throws. Another ESU three-pointer by R.C. Kehoe cut the margin to two points at 87-85 with five seconds left, but Harvey ended it with two foul shots with three seconds to go.

Mansfield (10-3) had six double-figure scorers led by Damoun Lopez with 18 points and Harvey with 17. Damar Lopez followed with 15 points, Schrader with 12 and Demontric Doodles and Goodman with ten apiece.

ESU's Shahad Abdur Rahkman took game honors with 22 points before fouling out with 47 seconds left. Juwan Justice added 15 points and had an early exit with 12:28 to go. Rob Smith had 15 points and also fouled out and Kehoe 14 and nine assists. ESU center Quincy Henderson pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
