ESU Freshman Center Leah Quigley Named

PSAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year

 

LOCK HAVEN - Freshman center Leah Quigley of East Stroudsburg University has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year in a vote of the conference's seven head coaches.

Quigley made the All-Conference first team along with teammate and first home Michelle Cottiers. Three ESU players, attack wing Antonia Giannopoulos, defense wing Morgan Prosser and goalie Kelly Wagner were second team selections.

A total of 28 players were honored, 14 on the first team and 14 on the second. Page Heath of Shippensburg was selected as the Player of the Year and Lock Haven's Kristen Geissler as the Coach of the Year.

Quigley, a Methacton High School graduate, ranked third on the ESU team in scoring with 25 goals and 14 assists for 39 points. She had single-game highs of four goals in three different games including a 15-10 victory over Shippensburg.

Cottiers, a junior from Suffern, N.Y., was the Warriors' leading scorer with 56 goals, tied for second most in the school's history, and 13 assists for 69 points. She had team highs of seven goals in a win over IUP and six goals apiece in losses to nationally-ranked Gannon and C.W. Post.

Giannopoulos, a junior from Strath Haven High School, added 43 goals and 26 assists, second highest total ever at the school, for 69 points. She scored in every game for the second straight year and repeated on the All-PSAC second team.

Prosser, a junior from Northern Lebanon High School, and Wagner, a junior from Elizabethtown High School, were defensive standouts for the Warriors. Wagner, a three-year starter, allowed 12.15 goals per game with a 48 percent save average.

The ESU team finished with a 6-10 record, including a 2-4 conference mark.
