ESU Attack Wing Antonia Giannopoulos Chosen

on Division II All-America Lacrosse Second Team

Charlottesville, Va. - Attack wing Antonia Giannopoulos of East Stroudsburg University has been chosen on the Brine Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association-US Lacrosse Division II All-America team.

She was a second team selection on the 32-player squad selected by the nation's Division II women's lacrosse coaches.

Giannopoulos scored 43 goals and had a team-leading 26 assists, second highest in the school's history, for 69 points. She tallied goals in every contest for the second straight year with highs of five goals in three different contests. The Warriors finished with a 6-10 record.

The junior from Wallingford had scored 35 goals and had 15 assists in her first year on the team in 2001. She transferred to ESU from the University of Maryland where she made the team and practiced as a freshman, but did not play in any games.

Giannopoulos was a forward on ESU field hockey team which finished as runner-up in both the NCAA Division II and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships. She scored two goals, including the winning goal in overtime, in a 2-1 victory over Shippensburg in the PSAC semi-finals.

She was a three-sport athlete at Strath Haven High School in field hockey, lacrosse and basketball.

National champion West Chester and semi-finalist Longwood each placed three players on the first team. Runner-up Stonehill, semi-finalist C.W. Post and Mercyhurst each had two players honored.
