ESU-Mercyhurst Women's Lacrosse
EAST STROUDSBURG - Third home Kristin Restivo broke the East Stroudsburg University career scoring record as she combined with second home Megan Macauley to lead the Warriors to a 13-9 women's lacrosse victory over Mercyhurst Sunday.
Restivo scored four goals to give her 143 for her career, three more than Ann Clifton tallied from 1983-86. She also added two assists. She has 26 goals in five games this season.
After her first two shots were stopped, the senior from Westbury, N.Y. tied the record as he wheeled across the middle and bounced a shot into the cage with 8:07 gone. That was the first goal of the game and the Warriors never trailed.
It was more than 35 minutes later until Restivo scored her record-tying goal with 19:34 left to play. She took a bullet pass from Macauley and bounced another hard shot past goalie Nicole Bonvouloir.
Restivo wasn't finished as she broke the game open with two straight goals in the final ten minutes which gave the Warriors a 12-8 lead. Until that point, there had never been more than two goals separating the two teams with ESU leading at halftime, 6-5.
Macauley was the game's top scorer with five goals and two assists and was the focal point for the entire ESU offense. She continually set the team's attack, which also featured scoring runs by attack wing Kim Niles, three goals and one assist.
On defense, the Warriors (4-1) held Mercyhurst to its lowest point total in five games. The Lakers (4-3) had beaten Shippensburg, 13-9, and barely lost to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion West Chester, 12-11, in three overtimes.
ESU goalie Kelly Wagner made 11 saves and had help from a steady backline headed by point Colleen Birmington, moved to defense for the first time this season, cover point Britt Huckaby and third man Andrea Demidont.
