ESU-IUP Women's Lacrosse

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University rolled to a 7-0 lead and had a 10-1 advantage midway through the first half before settling for a 13-7 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's lacrosse victory over Indiana University of Pennsylvania Saturday.

Megan Macauley scored five goals and Kristin Restivo added four for the Warriors, who raised their record to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference. They will play a non-conference game at Rowan today at 1 p.m. IUP is now 6-6 overall and 1-3 in PSAC play.

Restivo raised her season total to 49 goals, tied for third best in the school's history, and 14 assists. She holds the school record with 56 goals set last year. Macauley now has 37 goals and 12 assists.

Kim Niles had an assist to give her 20 for the season, breaking the school record of 19 set by Macauley last year.

Second string goalie Kristin Kowalczyk started for ESU in place of starter Kelly Wagner, sidelined by an injury, and made 12 saves and held the Indians to one goal until ESU Coach Sandy Miller went to her bench in the final ten minutes.

The defensive backline of point Colleen Birmingham, cover point Andrea Demidont, third man Britt Huckaby and defense wings Nicole DiGeronimo, Linda Zavitsky and Kate Fuddy continually throttled the IUP attack and made interceptions to regain possession.

Beth Starkey and Noelle Bowman scored two goals apiece for the Indians, but leading scorer Alyssa Kusturiss, who came into the game with 27 goals and 20 assists, was held to one goal and one assist. IUP goalie Pam Roy made 11 saves.
