ESU-Bloomsburg PSAC Lacrosse

BLOOMSBURG - Jackie Angermeier scored the tying goal in regulation and then the winning goal in overtime to carry Bloomsburg to an 11-10 comeback victory over East Stroudsburg University in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Championship Game Saturday.

With ESU leading, 10-9, Angermeier fired in a shot with 1:04 left in regulation to send the game into overtime. She then bounced in a goal after 50 seconds of the two three-minute extra periods for the victory.

It was Bloomsburg’s second PSAC title and gave the Huskies a final season record of 10-3. ESU, seeking its first conference crown, finished 11-5, still a school record for wins in a season.

The Warriors never trailed over the regulation 60 minutes. They grabbed a 2-0 lead on shots by Kristin Restivo and Megan Macauley and had a 4-1 edge with 17:47 left in the first half.

Bloomsburg made the first of several comebacks to tie the score at 4-4 before Macauley scored unassisted to send her team into halftime with a 5-4 lead.

The Warriors extended the lead to 7-4 early in the second half and still led, 9-6, with 11:28 remaining when the Huskies roared back, outscoring ESU, 5-1, the rest of the way. Michele Baylor had two of her game-high five goals to cut the deficit to 9-8 with 6:50 left and after five scoreless minutes, Katie Maclean tied the game off a free position shot with 1:47 to go.

Stephanie Wise had the large contingent of visiting ESU fans roaring less than 30 seconds later as she put ESU ahead, 10-9, after a pass from Kim Niles, at the 1:20 mark. Angermeier then took over, however, and the Warriors were held scoreless for the final seven minutes.

Restivo, the nation’s leading NCAA Division II scorer, tallied four goals to give her 72, increasing her own school record. Macauley added four goals and two assists and Niles a goal and two assists.

ESU had a slight edge in shots, 32-30, and several attempts carom off the posts. Kelly Wagner, the Warriors’ freshman goalie, made 14 saves while Bloomsburg’s Ysonda Wisher had 12 saves.
