Football--ESU 12, West Chester 6

West Chester, PA--Andre Castiglioni scored his second game winning touchdown in two weeks, as his three-yard, fourth quarter touchdown run gave East Stroudsburg University a 12-6 football victory over West Chester Saturday night.

Saturday's game was the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Eastern Division opener for both teams. ESU is now 2-0 for the first time since 1994. West Chester dropped to 0-2.

Castiglioni ran for 128 yards in 21 carries. He now has 282 yards in the two games.

The Warriors scored both of their touchdowns within one minute and forty seconds in the fourth quarter, both following Golden Rams turnovers.

With ESU behind 6-0, safety Pat Good intercepted a pass and returned it 29 yards to the West Chester 41 yard line. Castigliani ran twice, for six yards and then for 19, to bring the ball to the West Chester 16 yard line. AJ Oliveri then carried to the nine, and Castigliani took it to the two.

On second down, Jeremy Palm rolled left and found wide receiver Larry Harrison open in the left corner of the end zone for the touchdown. Mike Barry's kick was wide right, which left the score tied 6-6 with 10:01 remaining.

ESU used an on-side kick on the ensuing kickoff and it was successful as Mike Bemis hit ball carrier Robert Akins, causing a fumble which Blaec Saeger recovered on the Rams 41-yard line.

It took the Warriors only four plays to score. Palm completed a 25-yard pass to wide receiver Mike Patrick to bring the ball to the 16 yard line.

Oliveri carried to the eleven, and then it was Castigliani time again.

The 5-9, 190 pound tailback from Redding, ran off right tackle to the three, and then came right back off of right tackle for the touchdown with 8:21 remaining on the clock.

West Chester got into ESU territory twice in the final minutes to the 47 and 40 yard lines, but both time the ESU defense held. On the Rams last possession in the ESU forty, Adam DeAngela sacked quarterback Tim Bigelow for a fifteen yard loss.

The Golden Rams lone touchdown came in the first series of the second half when they drove 59 yards in eight plays with Bigelow hitting tight end Ryan Koch on a 15-yard pass for the score.

ESU linebackers Kevin Nagle and Rich Butcofski were the Warriors leading tacklers with eleven apiece, while Jeremy Brown and Good each had eight tackles.

ESU will travel to Glenville State of West Virginia next Saturday for a non-conference game.
