EAST STROUDSBURG – Quarterback Jeremy Palm passed for 282 yards and five touchdowns, all in the first half, as East Stroudsburg University trounced Cheyney, 52-8, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division football game Saturday.

Palm completed 14 of 20 passes including a pair of scoring plays of 30 and 66 yards to wide receiver John Kotarsky. He also connected on touchdown passes of 20 yards to tailback Andre Castiglioni, 16 yards to wide receiver Justin Kondikoff and five yards to wide receiver Craig Mahon.

Fullback A.J. Oliveri ran 44 yards for another first-half touchdown while tailback Mike Yanocha scored ESU’s lone second-half TD on a five-yard run.

The Warriors scored on their first three possessions and seven of the nine times they had the ball in the first half. They led, 45-0, at halftime and the second half was played under running time with the clock only stopping on injuries.

The ESU defense also contributed to the rout with fumble recoveries by linebacker Henry Breckenridge and safety Jeremy Brown setting up two touchdowns and Brown intercepting a pass in Cheyney territory to lead to a third score.

Breckenbridge, a freshman starting for only the second week, was the leading tackler with nine including a pair of sacks for 16 yards.

Cheyney didn’t get a first down on its first seven possessions which resulted in four punts, two fumbles lost and one interception. The team finally got a first down with 5:45 left in the second quarter.

The Wolves got on the scoreboard with 3:01 remaining when tailback Travis Willingham ran 27 yards for a touchdown.

The Warriors gained 543 yards total offense, 215 rushing and 328 passing. Castiglioni was the top rusher with 91 yards on ten carries and also caught two passes for 51 yards. Kotarsky finished with six receptions for 174 yards.

The win raised East Stroudsburg’s record to 5-3 including 4-1 in the PSAC Eastern Division. Cheyney is winless in seven games, five in the conference.
