EAST STROUDSBURG – Tailback Marques Glaze ran for a career-high 222 yards and four touchdowns to lead Bloomsburg to a 34-7 football victory over East Stroudsburg University in a battle for first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division Saturday.
A huge Family Day crowd of 5,300 fans watched the game at Eiler-Martin Stadium and saw the Warriors drop their first conference game after three victories. They are 4-2 overall. Bloomsburg is now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC East.
Glaze scored on runs of 9 and 47 yards in the first quarter and 55 and 6 yards in the third quarter. The 5-10, 194-pound senior from Conrad Weiser High School averaged 11.1 yards on 20 carries.
The Huskies piled up 355 yards rushing. They scored on their four possessions of the game to take a 20-0 lead and the first two times they had the ball in the second half to break the game open at 34-0. Kicker Tom Oliver booted field goals of 23 yards in the first quarter and 20 yards in the second quarter.
ESU’s offense moved the ball, getting 26 first downs and 398 yards, 188 rushing and 210 passing. On eight different offensive series, the Warriors got into Bloomsburg territory, four times inside the 20. They were held on the 2, 13 and 16-yard lines, however, before finally scoring on Greg Vaughn’s one-yard plunge with 6:42 remaining.
Tailback Andre Castiglioni had his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season with 104 yards on 21 carries. Vaughn added 44 yards on 11 attempts.
Quarterback Jeremy Palm was 19 for 42 for 210 yards, but was intercepted twice. Wide receiver Craig Mahon caught eight passes for 93 yards and Justin Kondikoff three for 54 yards.
Bloomsburg quarterback Chris Thompson was 7 for 13 for 75 yards, but five of his completions came on third-down plays which kept drives alive. Wide receiver Tierell Johnson had four catches for 36 yards.
Glaze’s previous single-game high had been 218 yards against IUP last year.
The Huskies’ defense was led by linebacker Jeremy Dyer with 14 tackles. Toyea Berry and Bryant Stone both made interceptions.
ESU will travel to Shippensburg Saturday for a PSAC crossover contest which will begin at 1 p.m.
