ESU Cross Country

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University swept a four-team women’s cross country home meet Saturday, beating Ursinus, 20-41; West Chester, 20-35, and New York University, 22-33.

Heather Bjorndahl placed fourth in a field of 39 runners to lead the ESU women. She was timed in 20:34 on the 5,000-meter course. Katie Dougherty of West Chester won the race in 20:00.

The Warriors’ Jane Grendel finished fifth in 20:35 with Kelly Curry sixth in 20:40, Hollie Smith eighth in 20:51 and Holly Holtzinger ninth in 20:56.

There also was a men’s race, but there was no team scoring because ESU was the only four-year college to have five finishers. ESU’s Mike Loenser placed second of 25 runners in a 5,000-meter time of 16:49. West Chester’s Mike Rothermel was first in 16:41.
