ESU in Allentown Invitational

 

CENTER VALLEY - East Stroudsburg University's men finished second of 28 teams in the Allentown Cross Country Invitational Saturday. The ESU women, led by Christel Hibbard's fifth-place finish, were 11th of 25 teams.

The College of New Jersey won the men's division with 55 points with ESU and the United States Merchant Marine Academy each scoring 131. The Warriors took second place on a higher finish by their sixth runner.

Darryl Brown led the ESU men by placing 16th in a field of 282 runners with an 8,000-meter time of 27:27.80. The Warriors' Mike Webster was 21st in 27:34.67, Brent Trentowski 23rd in 27:42.30. Rounding out the team's top six were Jeff Callan 31st, 27:50.43, Mark Donio 47th, 28:12.62, and Tom Jackson 55th, 28:31.43.

Hibbard had another big race, finishing in 19:18.92 for 5,000 meters. Heidi Wolfsberger of Moravian won the race in 18:29.91 in leading the Greyhounds to the women's team title with 32 points. The College of New Jersey was second with 61 and Kutztown third with 73. ESU scored 313.

Other members of ESU's top five were Erin Coyne 60th, 21:17.12; Stacie Gallagher 87th, 21:49.63, Kelly Curry 105th, 22:05.47, and Heather Bjorndahl 122nd, 22:31.98.
