Ninth Annual Baseball Spring Training Sessions

for Youngsters Begin at ESU Sunday, Jan. 20

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University will be running its ninth annual Baseball Spring Training for youngsters 12 years of age and older on four Sunday mornings starting Jan. 20.

Each session will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the LeRoy J. Koehler Fieldhouse. The others are scheduled Jan. 27, Feb. 3 and Feb. 10.

"This is a chance for baseball players to get a jump on the season. The dates and times have been scheduled so that they don't interfere with winter sports," said Roger Barren, ESU baseball coach.

"The drills are designed for players who are on junior high school or high school teams now or plan to try out in the future. It's a chance for youngsters to 'swing into spring' even though the snow is still on the ground," the coach continued.

Workouts will be developmental and will include preliminary stretching and throwing exercises to get players ready physically for the season. They also will be defensive drills specifically for each player's position.

Barren also emphasized there will be plenty of hitting in the Warriors' permanent indoor batting cage. John Kochmansky, highly-successful coach at Pen Argyl High School, will present his popular series of hitting drills.

Participants also will be able to use the indoor pitching mounds, soft-toss and tee nets and the indoor track in the fieldhouse.

The cost will be $110 for the 16 hours of instruction or $30.00 per session. Registration will take place before the sessions each day, but interested persons are asked to call 570 422-3263 to tell Coach Barren in advance that they are going to attend.
