Reynolds, LaBar, Roth Make All-PSAC Baseball Team

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Three East Stroudsburg University players, shortstop Brett Reynolds, second baseman Tadgh LaBar and utility player Scott Roth, were first team selections on the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division baseball team announced Tuesday.

One other ESU player, pitcher Mike Pavolko was a second team choice. A total of 25 players were honored, 14 on the first team and 11 on the second, in a balloting of the division's seven head coaches.

The three first team selections is the most for the Warriors in 15 years since seven team members made the 1985 all-star squad.

Reynolds was the leading hitter in the Eastern Division with a .421 batting average. He broke two school records with 77 hits, seven more than the old mark, and 17 doubles, two more than the former record. He also belted three triples and a homer, scored 56 runs, drove in 38 and stole 22 bases.

The junior from Philadelphia has started 136 straight games at shortstop for the Warriors over three seasons. He was a two-time All-City and All-Public player for Northeast High School.

LaBar, the team's leadoff hitter, also set a school record with 59 runs scored. The old mark was 48. He batted .365 and was the team's top power hitter with 23 extra-base hits on ten doubles, a conference-leading eight triples and five homers. He drove in 32 runs and had 17 stolen bases.

A second-year player for the Warriors, LaBar transferred to ESU after attending St. Joseph's for a year. The sophomore from Hope, N.J. was a two-time All-Skyland Conference shortstop for Belvidere High School and also made All-Conference in soccer and basketball.

Roth played three different positions, third base, centerfield and rightfield, and also pitched for the team, thus qualifying as a utility player. He set a school record for stolen bases in a season with 24, one more than the former record. He tied for the team lead in runs-batted-in with 39 and had 14 doubles, three triples and a homer in batting .298.

The senior from West Chester also pitched in seven games, posting a team-leading 1.90 earned-run average along with a 2-0 record. A four-year starter, he set ESU career records for runs with 139, stolen bases with 45 and times hit by pitch with 27. He was an All-Area and All-ChesMont League player for West Chester East High School.

Pavolko tied the school mark for pitching victories in a season in posting a 7-4 record. He had a 3.27 earned run average. He fired two three-hitters and one four-hitter and had consecutive shutout wins over Mansfield and Millersville.

The senior from Bethlehem won the award as the team's outstanding player. He pitched in a school record 64 games during his career. He was MVP of the baseball team at Freedom High School.

ESU's Reynolds, LaBar on All-District Baseball Team

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - East Stroudsburg University shortstop Brett Reynolds and second baseman Tadgh LaBar both were named to the NCAA Division II All-North Atlantic Region baseball first team announced Thursday.

A total of 16 players were selected on the first team in a balloting of the region's head baseball coaches. All will now appear on the national ballot for the NCAA All-America Selection Committee which will meet today (May 26) in Montgomery, Alabama, scene of the NCAA Division II World Series.

Reynolds and LaBar are ESU's first All-Region first team selections since pitcher Joel Bennett was honored in 1991.

Reynolds, a junior from Philadelphia, was the leading hitter in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division with a .421 batting average. He set two school season records with 77 hits and 17 doubles.

LaBar, a sophomore from Hope, N.J., established a school season mark for runs scored with 59. He batted .365 and had a team-leading .578 slugging percentage with ten doubles, eight triples and five homers.

Only two other PSAC players made the All-Region first team, third baseman Matt Knox of Millersville and pitcher George McClure, both from Eastern Division champion Millersville.
