Yagel, Reynolds Make All-PSAC Baseball Team;

Farkas Named Division Rookie of the Year

 

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - First baseman Bryan Yagel and shortstop Brett Reynolds of East Stroudsburg University were selected on the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division baseball team announced Wednesday.

ESU freshman outfielder Nick Farkas was named the PSAC East Rookie of the Year. The voting was done by the head coaches of the seven division teams.

One other ESU player, second baseman Tadgh LaBar were chosen on the second team.

The Warriors, under Coach Roger Barren, finished with a 23-19-1 record, including a 12-12 PSAC mark.

Yagel led the conference in batting with a .430 average and in runs-batted-in with a school-record 63 in 43 games for an average of 1.47 per game. He had 64 hits in 149 at-bats with 12 doubles, two triples and four home run.

The 6-1, 200-pound junior from Sunbury had a single-game high of nine RBIs in a win over Aurora, Ill. He was a transfer from Penn State-Wilkes Barre where he was a two-time All-Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference selection. He made the All-Susquehanna Valley League team for Shikellamy High School.

Reynolds was named to the All-PSAC first team for the second straight year. He led the conference in stolen bases with 24 in 43 games for an average of 0.56 per game. He was third in runs scored with a team-leading 48 for an average or 1.12 per game.

The 5-10, 180-pound senior from Philadelphia batted .338 with 46 hits in 136 at-bats. He set two ESU career records with 159 runs scored and 51 stolen bases and had a career batting average of .349.

Reynolds was a four-year starter, playing every game for the Warriors at shortstop. He was a two-time All-City and All-Public player for Northeast High School.

Farkas batted .310 with 22 hits in 71 at-bats. He belted seven doubles, two triples and a homer and drove in 17 runs. The 6-1, 190-pound freshman was an All-Area and All-Mountain Valley Conference player last year for Northampton High School.

LaBar, a first-team choice last season, posted a .365 batting average with 57 hits in 156 attempts. He had nine doubles, three triples and three homers, batted in 30 runs and scored 38. The 5-9, 170-pound senior started for the Warriors for three years after earning All-Skyline Conference honors as a shortstop for Belvidere High School.
