SCRANTON – Troy Hayes, a freshman from East Stroudsburg High School, pitched six shutout innings and Tadgh LaBar belted a homer and four singles as East Stroudsburg University clinched a winning baseball season by trouncing Scranton, 17-9, Thursday.

The Warriors are now 22-18-1 with only two games remaining, a doubleheader at Millersville Saturday. Scranton ended its season with a 6-25 record.

Hayes made his first start of the season and gave up seven hits and two walks while striking out three in gaining the win.

LaBar went 5-for-7 with five RBIs to power a 25-hit ESU attack. He had run-producing singles in the second and fourth innings, a three-run homer in the fifth and singles in the eighth and ninth.

Four other Warriors had four hits apiece. Ryan Hatfield was 3-for-5 with a homer and double while Brett Reynolds, Bryan Yagel and PJ Worznick were all 3-for-6. Yagel drove in three runs to lift his school-record RBI total to 62. Ryan Conrad also belted a solo homer.

The Royals scored their eight runs in the final three innings with Mike Cummings hitting a three-run homer in the seventh and John Robertson a grand slam in the ninth.
