ESU-Kutztown Baseball

KUTZTOWN - Tim Bausher and Danny Nelson pitched Kutztown to a sweep over East Stroudsburg University, 6-1 and 11-1, Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader.

Bausher hurled a four-hitter in the first game, striking out six batters and walking only two. He allowed only an unearned run in the sixth inning on an error and singles by Brett Reynolds and Bryan Yagel.

The Golden Bears (19-9, 3-3 PSAC) broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth inning with Joe Leach and Rick Buro driving the first two with singles. They added two runs in the fifth with Leach driving in another run with a single and a run in the sixth on Buro's double.

Nelson went the first six innings in the second game and allowed two hits and one run on Ryan Hatfield's solo homer in the sixth. He struck out three batters and walked three. Rob McCuen finished up and gave up one hit in the seventh inning.

Mike Waldt had the big hit for Kutztown with a three-run double in the second inning. He wound up with four RBIs. Fitch was 2-for-2 with a double and Stan Haraczka 2-for-4 with a double.

ESU was missing its scheduled starting pitcher Gordy Kocher, out for a week with a hamstring injury, and catcher Joe Sobeski, sidelined at least three weeks with a shoulder injury. Kocher hurled a shutout in his last start against Mansfield.

The Warriors fell to 12-9-1 overall and 4-4 in the conference. Kutztown is now 19-9 and 3-3 in PSAC play.

Today's scheduled home doubleheader against Dominican has been cancelled because of wet grounds.1
