EAST STROUDSBURG - Joe Sobeski belted a double and two singles and drove in four runs as East Stroudsburg University trounced Philadelphia University, 17-2, in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday.
The win evened the Warriors' record at 20-20 and represented the school's fourth straight 20-win season under Coach Roger Barren. The team will play a rescheduled home doubleheader today at 1 p.m. against Bloomsburg.
Ryan Conrad also was 3 for 3, Tadgh LaBar 3 for 5 and Scott Roth 2 for 5 for ESU. LaBar, the leadoff hitter, scored three runs to give him a season total of 47, one short of the school record of 48 set by J.D. Stern in 1998.
The Warriors scored two runs in the first inning on consecutive doubles by Roth, Sobeski and Ryan Hatfield. They broke it open with five runs in the second inning with Sobeski driving in a pair with a single.
Craig Whitten hurled two-hit shutout ball for five innings to get the pitching victory. He struck out three and walked none. Dallas Erle tossed two innings in relief and didn't allow a hit while Joe Kendy and Brian Delahanty each worked an inning and gave up a hit and a run.
