ESU-Mansfield Baseball

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University pounded eight extra-base hits with Bryan Yagel and Nick Farkas each belting a pair of doubles in trouncing Mansfield, 14-2, in the first game of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday.

The Mounties came back to take the second game, 6-3, on the combined pitching of starter Greg Martin and reliever Bill Allen.

The Warriors took the lead, 2-1, with two runs in the second inning as Ryan Hatfield tripled in the first run and scored on Jeff Dahl's grounder. They then added four runs in the third as Yagel, Dahl and Farkas all had run-producing doubles and Hatfield knocked in a run with a single.

The hitting barrage continued with five runs in the fourth inning with the big hit, Farkas' two-run double. Matt Harmic doubled in two runs during a final three-run rally in the fifth inning.

Harmic and Yagel were both 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Farkas and Blake Martin were 2-for-3 and Hatfield 2-for-4.

Pitcher Ryan Kocher hurled a three-hitter, allowing only one earned run, in lifting his record to 4-1. He had shut out Mansfield on a three-hitter in a game three weeks ago.

In the second game, Martin, now 5-3, allowed only four hits and two earned runs over six innings. Allen picked up his eighth save of the season by striking out three batters while giving up one hit in the seventh.

P.J. Lee led the team's attack as he belted a two-run homer over the right field fence in the first inning and then doubled and scored the go-ahead run on Jason Fischer's single in the fourth inning.

With the split, ESU is now 16-13-1 overall and 8-8 in the conference. Mansfield is 24-13 and also 8-8 in PSAC play.
