ESU-Millersville Baseball

EAST STROUDSBURG - Mike Pavolko pitched a masterful three-hit shutout and Scott Roth drove in the only run as East Stroudsburg University trimmed league-leading Millersville, 1-0, in the second game of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Wednesday.

The Marauders (30-7, 11-2 PSAC) won the first game, 6-5, on Ryan Brink's single in the seventh inning.

Pavolko bested Millersville's Jason Bradley in the tightest pitching dual of the season in the conference, which has seen most games wind up with double-digit scoring. Bradley allowed only two hits.

The ESU senior from Bethlehem-Freedom gave up one walk and struck out five. Only one Millersville runner advanced as far as second base and that came on an error. It was Pavolko's second three-hitter of the season and his fifth win against three defeats.

The Warriors (17-19, 6-8 PSAC) scored the lone run in the fourth as Tadgh LaBar was hit by a pitch, stole second base and rode home on Roth's line single to centerfield.

In the opener, the Marauders scored the winning run in the seventh as Mike Wolulich walked, took second on Bobby Knox's single and came home on Brink's line single to leftfield.

The Warriors' Matt Harmic doubled to lead off the bottom of the seventh and Joe Sobeski bunted pinch-runner Matt James to third. Millersville reliever and winner George McClure ended the game, however, by getting the last two outs on a strikeout and a popup.

Harmic was 2 for 3 with two runs-batted-in and LaBar 2 for 4 with a triple. ESU's Brett

Reynolds extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in four at-bats in the opener, but he then went 0 for 3 against Bradley, who had been the last pitcher to stop him in a 9-1 Millersville win back in March.
