ESU-Bloomsburg Baseball

BLOOMSBURG - Bryan Yagel drove in three runs to set a school single-season RBI record with 49 as East Stroudsburg University downed Bloomsburg, 7-5, in the first game of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Thursday.

The Huskies came back to take the second contest, 3-2, scoring runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Yagel tied the former school mark of 47 RBIs set by Jeff Pfeiffer in 1985 on a bases-loaded walk in the second inning. He then broke the record with a game-tying two-run homer, his fourth of the season, in the sixth inning.

The Warriors won the game with three runs in the seventh inning as Brett Reynolds drove in the first with a single and Matt Harmic delivered the other two with a two-run homer. Yagel was 3-for-4 at the plate while Jeff Dahl was 2-for-3 and Tadgh LaBar, Reynolds and Blake Martin were all 2-for-4.

Mike Zimorowicz went the route to gain the pitching win, giving up nine hits and only two earned runs.

Behind 1-0 in the second game, ESU went ahead with two runs in the top of the sixth inning on a walk, Tadgh LaBar's triple and Reynolds' single.

The Huskies tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on three straight singles, the last by Mike Fiorelli. They won the game in the seventh as Mark Reiter reached on an error, was sacrified to second and came all around to score on Jason Helcoski's infield single.

Robert Jewett got the pitching win in relief of starter Mike Robertson, who went 6 1/3 innings and allowed four hits, two by Reynolds, and two runs. Jason Ryan, who had hurled a no-hitter against Bloomsburg earlier in the season, took the loss, giving up two earned runs and eight hits.

The split left ESU with 15-12-1 overall record and 7-7 mark in the conference. Bloomsburg is now 14-21 overall and 3-11 in PSAC play.
