ESU-Dowling Baseball

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior Scott Roth pitched and batted East Stroudsburg University to a 12-4 win over Dowling in the second game of a baseball doubleheader Sunday on Mitterling Field.

The Lions won the opener, 13-5, scoring six runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth.

Roth, the team's starting centerfielder, came in to relieve in the fourth inning of the nightcap and hurled one-hit shutout ball the final 3 1/3 innings. He also went 2 for 3 at the plate with two runs-batted-in after going 2 for 2 in the first game.

Behind 2-0, the Warriors (16-18) took the lead with five runs in the first inning with Ryan Hatfield and Frank Ur both hitting two-run singles. They scored two runs in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth with the big hits, doubles by Tadgh LaBar and Ur.

Ur was 3 for 4 at the plate and Hatfield was 2 for 2 with three RBIs.

In the opener, Dowling got big games from Matt Eggert, who was 3 for 5 with two doubles, and Bill Shields, who was 2 for 3 with four RBIs. Brett Reynolds was 2 for 4 for ESU.
