ESU-Shippensburg Baseball

SHIPPENSBURG - Shippensburg used three-run fifth-inning rallies in both games to sweep a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader over East Stroudsburg University, 11-10 and 9-5, Saturday.

Behind 10-8 in the opener, the Red Raiders (19-16, 9-3 PSAC) rallied in the fifth on singles by Joe Kitt, Jeremy Bohonko and Matt DeSanto combined with a costly ESU error on a potential double play grounder.

The Warriors (15-17, 5-7 PSAC) had plenty of fire power as Anthony Piazza belted a three-homer, Scott Roth hit a two-run homer and Tadgh LaBar went 4 for 5 with a solo homer, a double and two singles.

ESU reliever Mike Zimorowicz went 4 1/3 innings and allowed only one earned run, but took the loss, his second against five victories. Winner Steve Conlon and reliever Adam Winters held the Warriors scoreless for the last three innings.

In the second game, Shippensburg had a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth and broke it open with Bobby Knox driving in two runs with a double and Carl Clemko delivering the third run with a single.

Matt Harmic belted a two-run homer and also had a double for ESU. The Raiders' DeSanto hit a solo homer

Both pitchers went the route with Richie Rodarmel getting the win and Mike Pavolko, now 4-3, taking the loss.
