ESU-Millersville Baseball

EAST STROUDSBURG - Ryan Amey hurled a masterful five-hitter as East Stroudsburg University downed Millersville, 5-1, in the second game of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday.

The Marauders took the opener, 4-2, as Mike Wokulich went 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple.

Amey did not allow an earned run , struck out five batters and didn't walk any. The freshman from Emmaus High School raised his season record to 3-2.

Behind 1-0, ESU took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning. Tadgh LaBar doubled to leftfield and Brett Reynolds reached when the Huskies misplayed his sacrifice bunt. Bryan Yagel then singled to right field for one run and Ryan Hatfield singled to left field with Reynolds sliding across the plate to just beat the tag for a second run.

The Warriors (14-11-1, 6-6 PSAC) then broke it open with three runs in the fifth inning. Nick Farkas started it off with a single, was sacrificed to second base and took third on a groundout and scored on LaBar's single to left field. LaBar stole second and Reynolds brought him home with a single to right field. Two more singles by Matt Harmic and Yagel produced the final run.

LaBar, Yagel, Hatfield and Farkas were all 2-for-3 with Yagel driving in two runs to give him 46 for the season, one short of the school record of 47 set by Jeff Pfeiffer in 1985.

In the opener, ESU took the lead with two runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Reynolds and Jeff Dahl. That was the team's final scoring, however, as Andy Paine pitched shutout ball for five innings and then George McClure got the final three outs in the seventh.

The Marauders (19-9, 5-7 PSAC) scored an unearned run in the second inning which came across on the fielder's choice ground. They added two more unearned runs in the third, scoring on Matt Knox's sacrifice fly and Wokulich's double. Wokulich tripled in the fifth inning and later scored on Matt Becker's sacrifice fly.

Matt Harmic was 2-for-2 for ESU. Gordy Kocher pitched the route, giving up seven hits and only one earned run to suffer his first loss after three wins.
