ESU-Shippensburg Baseball

SHIPPENSBURG - Centerfielder Matt Harmic belted a three-run homer and pitcher Jason Ryan allowed only two earned runs as East Stroudsburg University downed Shippensburg, 9-4, in the second game of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Thursday.

The Red Raiders took the opener, 16-0, pounding out 15 hits, including two homers and two doubles.

Ahead by only 4-3, the Warriors broke the second game open with five runs in the seventh inning. Tadgh LaBar drove in the first run with a double and Bryan Yagel the second with a single. Harmic then unloaded a shot over the centerfield fence for three more runs and a 9-3 lead.

Ryan scattered seven hits, struck out five and walked two as he raised his record to 3-2 with third complete game of the season. Eric Lentz and LaBar both went 2-for 2 while Harmic was 2-for-4. Yagel drove in two runs, giving him 44 RBIs in 22 games.

Shippensburg quickly took the lead in the first game as Paul Abraham hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Jeremy Bohonko a two-run homer in the second. They added four runs in the fourth inning and six in the sixth.

Matt DeSanto was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and five other Red Raiders had two hits apiece.

Ben Boyles pitched the first five innings and allowed three hits and Sean Kenneck worked the last two and also gave up three hits. Ryan Hatfield had half of ESU production as he went 3-for-3 with a double and two singles.

The split leaves the Warriors with a 13-10-1 overall record and a 5-5 PSAC mark.

Shippensburg is now 18-16 overall and 9-3 and in first place in the conference.
