ESU-New Jersey Tech Baseball

EAST STROUDSBURG – Bryan Yagel went 4-for-4 and drove in five runs as East Stroudsburg University downed New Jersey Tech, 13-7, in the second game of a non-conference baseball doubleheader Sunday.

The Highlanders (7-9) took the opener, 3-2, ending the ESU pitching staff’s 25-inning scoreless streak with one run in the fifth and then winning the game with two runs in the seventh.

Yagel belted a double and three singles and drove in runs in all four at-bats. Brett Reynolds and Ryan Conrad both went 3-for-4 in the team’s 12-hit attack.

The Warriors (11-6-1) scored six runs in the second inning as Yagel hit a two-run double and Steve Harris a run-producing-double. They led, 8-0, before NJIT rallied to within one run with two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth. ESU broke it open with five runs in the bottom of the sixth with Yagel and Ryan Hatfield getting the only two RBIs.

Matt DelGuidice hurled five innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out five to get the pitching victory.

In the opener, ESU’s Danny Supey pitched four scoreless innings in attempting to copy teammates Jason Ryan, Gordy Kocher and Ryan Amey, who had pitched shutouts for ESU in the last three games. Supey went six innings and gave up one run and three hits.

The Highlanders pushed across the two winning runs in the seventh on Chris Lyons’ single, a walk, an error and Rich Livolski’s sacrifice fly.

Reynolds was 2-for-3 and drove in one run.
