ESU Baseball

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Allegheny College broke East Stroudsburg University's eight-game unbeaten streak by sweeping the Warriors in a baseball doubleheader, 3-2 and 5-2, Thursday.

ESU, which had seven wins and tie since dropping a season-opening doubleheader to Longwood, is now 7-4-1. The team will return north today and play a doubleheader at Lock Haven Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Gators won the opening game with a run in the seventh inning. Mark Minadeo was hit by a pitch, stole second base and came across on Ben Couch's single.

Behind 2-0, the Warriors scored a run in the fourth inning on Bryan Yagel's solo homer and another run in the fifth as Tadgh LaBar doubled and Brett Reynolds singled him home. Reynolds was 2-for-3.

Adam Oshnoch pitched the first six innings, allowing seven hits and both runs, to get the victory. Rob George worked the seventh and got a save. ESU's Mike Zimorowicz also gave up seven hits in taking the loss.

In the second game, Allegheny scored three runs in the third inning and that was all pitcher Scott Swimchock, who hurled a six-hitter, needed.

Both ESU runs came in the fifth inning as Joe Sobeski's single, a walk to Ryan Hatfield and PJ Worsnick's single loaded the bases and Steve Harris then belted a two-run double. Harris was 2-for-2 and Worsnick 2-for 3.

Losing pitcher Jason Ryan gave up only four hits, but he walked five batters and hit two others with pitches.
