ESU-Aurora Baseball

FT. MYERS – Red-hot Bryan Yagel drove in nine runs as East Stroudsburg University outlasted Aurora College, 19-15, in eight innings, in the first game of a night baseball doubleheader Wednesday.

The Warriors also rallied from a 10-0 deficit to win the second game, 13-11, on Brett Reynolds' three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the opener, Yagel went 3-for-5 at the plate with a grand slam homer in the second inning, two-run singles in fifth and eighth innings and an RBI groundout in the first.

The Warriors won the game with four runs in the eighth inning. A walk to Nick Farkas and singles by Anthony Piazza and Blake Martin loaded the bases. A walk to Tadgh LaBar forced in one run and Reynolds sacrifice fly brought home a second run. Yagel then singled for the final two runs.

Aurora threatened in the bottom of the eighth, loading the bases with one out. Mike Zimorowicz relieved for winning pitcher Craig Whitten and struck out the last two batters.

LaBar went 4-for-4 and Reynolds and Piazza 2-for-4 for ESU. There were six home runs in the game with Aurora’s Scott Roen also hitting a grand slam, his coming in the fourth inning.

In the second game, the Warriors started their comeback in the bottom of the fourth with seven runs. The big hit was Anthony Piazza's two-run double.

They added two runs in the sixth which included LaBar's solo homer and won the game with four runs in the seventh. With one out, Piazza and Steve Harris both singled and LaBar drove in one run with a single. Reynolds then unloaded his game-winning homer to raise ESU's record to 7-2-1.

Reynolds and Piazza were both 3-for-4 and LaBar 2-for-4 with a solo homer. Ryan Amey went the last 3 2/3 innings on the mound, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out six, to get the pitching win.

Yagel was 1 for 4 in the second game and is now batting 528 with 19 hits in 36 at-bats and an amazing 25 RBIs. Reynolds is hitting .484 (15 for 31) with ten RBIs.
