ESU Baseball (vs. Ashland, Davis and Elkins)
FT. MYERS, Fla. – East Stroudsburg University used late-inning rallies to beat Ashland, 8-7, and tie Davis and Elkins, 11-11, in a pair of baseball games at Taylor Park Sunday.
The Warriors came back from a 6-0 deficit against Ashland with three runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth and then won the game with a seventh-inning run. Matt Harmic singled to lead off the seventh and then raced all the way around to score on Bryan Yagel’s single to deep rightfield.
Singles by PJ Worsnick and Steve Harris and Tadgh LaBar’s double produced the runs in the fifth. Yagel, Joe Sobeski and Worsnick all had doubles and Ryan Hatfield and LaBar singles during the sixth-inning rally.
Gordy Kocher pitched the complete game, allowing seven hits and four earned runs, to gain the victory. Harmic and Yagel were 2-for-3 and LaBar, Worsnick and Hatfield all 2-for-4.
In the second game, ESU trailed Davis and Elkins, 11-2, entering the bottom of the seventh and tallied nine runs to tie the score. The game was called because of a three-hour rule.
Nick Farkas drove in the ninth and game-tying run with a double and also had a run-producing single during the outburst. Yagel drove in two runs with a double and Harmic two runs with a single. Ryan Hatfield belted a triple to bring home one run and Tadgh LaBar and Joe Sobeski had RBI singles.
