ESU-Columbia Union Baseball
TAKOMA PARK, Md. - Bryan Yagel and Matt Harmic each drove in five runs as East Stroudsburg University swept a baseball doubleheader over Columbia Union, 8-6 in nine innings, and 9-4 in a six-inning game, Sunday.
Behind 6-5, the Warriors tied the score in the seventh inning of the opener on a double by Yagel. They then won the game with two runs in the ninth as Tadgh LaBar reached on an error, Brett Reynolds doubled, Harmic brought home one run on a groundout and Yagel delivered the second with a single.
Mike Zimorowicz hurled two hit shutout ball for the last four innings, striking out four, to get the pitching victory. Reynolds went 2-for-3 at the plate and Yagel 2-for-4.
ESU broke the game open the second game quickly with four runs in the first inning and three in the third. Harmic singled home a run in the first and tripled in a run in the third. Yagel then hit a two-run single in the sixth.
Coach Roger Barren used five pitchers in a pre-arranged rotation with starter Gordy Kocher firing two innings of no-hit ball for the win. Nick Farkas was 2-for-3 and Harmic and Yagel both 2-for-4.
The Warriors evened their record at 2-2. They will return to action Saturday in two games against Slippery Rock and Missouri-St. Louis in Fort Myers, Fla.
