ESU's Yagel Makes All-Region Baseball Team
East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Slugging first baseman Bryan Yagel of East Stroudsburg University has been selected on the NCAA All-North Atlantic Region baseball team announced Wednesday.
Yagel was one of 16 players chosen on the first team in a balloting of the region's head coaches. The players now will appear on the national ballot for consideration by the NCAA Division II All-America Committee which will meet at the site of the NCAA Division II World Series May 25 in Montgomery, Ala.
The junior from Sunbury led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in hitting with a .430 average on 64 hits in 149 at-bats. He also was the conference leader in runs-batted-in with a school-record 63 RBIs in 43 games for an average of 1.47 per game.
Yagel belted 12 doubles, two triples and four home runs. He had a .984 fielding average with 305 putouts, nine assists and only five errors. He previously had made the All-PSAC Eastern Division first team.
It marked the third straight year that the Warriors and Coach Roger Barren had an All-Regional selection. Last year, both shortstop Brett Reynolds and second baseman Tadgh LaBar were honored on the first team while in 1999, outfielder J.D. Stern made the second team.
The Warriors finished with a 23-19-1 record, including a 12-12 conference mark.
