ESU-Longwood Baseball
FARMVILLE, Va. - East Stroudsburg University opened its baseball season Sunday and suffered a double defeat to Longwood College, 6-2 and 12-5.
The Lancers scored five runs in the first two innings of the opener and that was all pitcher Robbie Chinn needed. The freshman righthander, making his first collegiate start, scattered six hits with ten strikeouts and just one earned run.
Bryan Yagel went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Warriors while Tadgh LaBar and Brett Reynolds were 1 and 3 and Blake Martin had a pinch-hit single.
In the second game, the Warriors scored three runs in the first inning, but Longwood tied the score with a run in first and two in the second. The Lancers then broke it open with nine runs in the fourth inning with Jeremy Knicely and Travis Pfitzner both hitting homers.
Ryan Hatfield was ESU's top hitter, going 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Yagel was 1 for 3 with a double and also drove in two runs. LaBar was 2 for 4.
The Warriors will now have a 17-day break before traveling to Lafayette March 7th for a 3 p.m. game.
