ESU-Kutztown Baseball
EAST STROUDSBURG - Mike Pavolko gained both pitching victories as East Stroudsburg swept Kutztown, 11-10 in eight innings and 7-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Monday.
Pavolko came in to relieve in the seventh inning of the opener and went 1 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and no runs. He became the winner when Joe Sobeski singled deep over the centerfielder's head to score Brett Reynolds from third base with the deciding run in the bottom of the eighth.
The ESU senior from Bethlehem then hurled a three-hitter in the second contest, giving up only a second-inning run. He struck out five batters and stranded eight runners. The two wins raised his record to 4-2.
In the opener, the Warriors shelled Kutztown pitching ace Steve Fitch, who came in with an 8-0 record, for 15 hits and 11 runs. Reynolds was 4 for 5 with a double and a triple and three runs-batted-in, Matt Harmic and Steve Harris 2 for 4 and Joe Sobeski 2 for 5.
In the deciding eighth, Reynolds led off with a single to rightfield and stole second base. Scott Roth bunted him over to third and after an intentional walk to Matt Harmic, Sobeski delivered him.
The Warriors started quickly in the second game as singles by Reynolds and Roth and Sobeski's double produced two runs in the first inning. The team broke it open with four runs in the fourth as Tadgh LaBar drove in two with a double and Harmic two more with a single.
Harmic was 2 for 3 and LaBar 2 for 4 while Roth also had two RBIs.
