Four Warriors Chosen on All-Conference

Women's Lacrosse Second Team

 

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Four East Stroudsburg University players, attack wings Kim Niles and Antonia Giannopoulos, center Stephanie Wise and defense wing Nicole DiGeronimo, have made the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's lacrosse second team.

The selections were made the head coaches of the seven conference lacrosse teams. Kim Rochon of league champion West Chester was named the PSAC Player of the Year while the Lady Rams' Ginny Martino was chosen as the PSAC Coach of the Year.

Giannopoulos led the Warriors in scoring with 35 goals, fifth in the conference, and 15 assists for 50 points. She scored goals in all 15 games. The sophomore from Wallingford, Pa. (Strath Haven High School) was a newcomer to the ESU team this season after transferring from the University of Maryland.

Niles concluded an outstanding four-year career by scoring 30 goals and 14 assists. The senior from New Britain, Pa. (Central Bucks West HS) set a school career record with 61 assists and had 101 career goals, one of the highest totals ever at the school. She won the award as the team's outstanding player at the ESU Athletic Awards Banquet Sunday.

Wise, a senior from Norristown, Pa. (Norristown HS) and DiGeronimo, a senior from Flemington, N.J. (Flemington HS), also were four-year starters and standouts on defense. Wise contributed nine goals and six assists this season while DiGeronimo had two goals and three assists.

The Warriors finished with a 7-8 record and a 2-4 conference mark.

Second Team: Offense - Antonia Giannopoulos (ESU), Kim Niles (ESU), Kristin Burnheter (Millersville), Page Heath (Shippensburg), Nikki Matuszewski (Millersville); Defense - Nicole DiGerinimo (ESU), Stephanie Wise (ESU), Sarah Bowers (Millersville), Liz Morrow (West Chester), Nicole Wiley (Bloomsburg); Goalie - Jen Roman (West Chester).
